Deutsche Bank today hosted the inaugural Junior Women in Markets event at its Sydney offices welcoming 30 women from 10 financial services organisations.

Deutsche Bank Director of Equities Research and Chair of Deutsche Bank’s Gender Opportunity Committee (dbGO), Emily Smith, said: “The Junior Women in Markets network aims to give junior females in our industry the opportunity to network and build relationships with peers which is incredibly important as they move forward in their careers.”

Junior Women in Markets was co-founded by Jenna Labib and Georgia Weekes who both work in Deutsche Bank’s Global Markets division. 

Weekes said: “In the early stages we weren’t sure what level of interest we would get but we have been overwhelmed by the response and many of our peers were delighted to be invited to participate.” 

Labib added: “We hope today’s event marks the beginning of building an invaluable network that junior females in markets draw on as we navigate our careers in this dynamic industry.”

Today’s event comprised a panel segment where the audience heard from three senior females from different divisions within Deutsche Bank on their successful careers within banking: 

• Emily Smith, Director, Equities Research
• Jo Uebergang, Director, Structured Sales for Intermediaries
• Olivia del Piano, Director, Credit Structuring

Labib and Weekes are in the process of establishing a committee that will seek to meet quarterly and host regular events for its members.
