Eight disadvantaged female students will each receive $2,000 to help pay for their tertiary education through The Smith Family, thanks to support from Deutsche Bank, its employees and other companies.
The Smith Family’s Females for Finance crowdfunding project raised $16,249 after its launch on October 8 at the 6th Annual Women in Banking and Finance (WiBF) Forum, hosted by Deutsche Bank. Deutsche Bank employees voted for The Smith Family as their Charity of the Year in June.
“These funds will make a real impact in the lives of eight finance and commerce students,” said Dr Lisa O’Brien, CEO of The Smith Family. “We hope it will help them realise their professional ambitions while also making a real difference to this country’s future.”
The aim of the project is to provide financial support to university and TAFE students involved in The Smith Family’s Learning for Life Program.
Attendees at the WiBF Annual Forum contributed to the project through Pozible, a Melbourne-based crowdfunding web-based platform that supports creative startups.
The final tally for the project, which closed on October 24, was raised from 106 supporters including one-off donations from Deutsche Bank, BNP Paribas, National Australia Bank and NIB of $2,000 each. Deutsche Bank has also agreed to match all other donations made by its employees which will further increase total donations.
