Deutsche Bank renews contemporary art partnership with the Biennale of Sydney

The 19th Biennale of Sydney this week announced that Deutsche Bank will renew its support of Asia Pacific’s largest contemporary visual arts event for a third time as Major Partner of the three-month long exhibition next year.

More than 90 artists from 31 countries will show works at the 2014 exhibition, Juliana Engberg, the Biennale’s Artistic Director, said at a media launch on 30 October. Deutsche Bank’s support will help keep the exhibition, running from 21 March to 9 June 2014, free to the public.

JT Macfarlane, Executive Chairman, Deutsche Bank Australia and New Zealand, said: “Like the Biennale, Deutsche Bank is celebrating its 40th anniversary in Australia this year. We’re pleased to be able to support its great work in enabling more people to engage with contemporary art at venues across the city.”

Deutsche Bank has supported contemporary art institutions in Sydney for over ten years. It first extended its support to the Biennale as Education Partner in 2010.

Juliana Engberg, Artistic Director of the 19th Biennale of Sydney, said: “The 19th Biennale of Sydney – You Imagine what you Desire – is an optimistic biennale that presents an exploration of the world and contemporary aesthetic experience through the inventions and desires of well-known artists, as well as many exhibiting in Sydney for the first time.”

Major venues for the 19th Biennale of Sydney include the the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, Cockatoo Island, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Artspace and Carriageworks.

Deutsche Bank has supported emerging artists for more than three decades, building up the world's largest corporate art collection, 95 percent of which is accessible to the public. The bank's commitment to contemporary art comes from a belief that art asks questions, builds understanding and transcends borders.
