Deutsche Bank sponsors the Sydney Writers’ Festival as a Major Partner for a fifth straight year this week, supporting the city’s biggest annual celebration of literature and ideas through a debate on morality and economics with the renowned Harvard University philosopher Michael Sandel.
Sandel, who has been described as a ‘rock-star moralist’, will discuss his new book What Money Can’t Buy: The Moral Limits of Markets with author and political commentator George Megalogenis, asking is there something wrong with a world where everything is for sale. Sandel’s work has been translated into 21 languages while his Harvard course ‘Justice’ has been viewed by millions of people around the world and is freely available online (www.JusticeHarvard.org).
Other Sydney Writers’ Festival highlights include storyteller Daniel Morden’s opening address, comedian Ruby Wax’s ‘Guide to a Sane Life’, secrets from the US president’s 2008 and 2012 campaigns with Barack Obama’s Chief Digital Strategist Joe Rospars, a discussion with actress Molly Ringwald about her writing, and a talk with the 2010 Deutsche Bank Artist of the Year, Wangechi Mutu at the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia.
Deutsche Bank encourages creativity and inquiring minds, supporting access to culture regardless of background. The Sydney Writers’ Festival makes this possible with events all over Sydney, some 150 of which are free. The Festival will run from May 21 through to May 26.
